When life doesn't go according to plan

We all may have a vision of how we want life to go. For the most part, days are happy and we move along just living life, knowing that we'll have an occasional sprinkle of disappointment or sad times along the way. But does anyone really envision what those sad times might be? I don't.

Even as I sat, listening to a few doctors tell me of their findings that cancer had invaded my body, my mind was not processing their words. It was so far off my radar that my mind had a hard time catching up to my ears. I didn't want to hear any more but sat, unmoved and pretended to be interested in what they were saying. What I really wanted to do was run out of the office, run, run run.
