Eyebrows in question

Friday, June 10, 2011

We just happened to be goofing around and now I have a recent snapshot with the eyebrows in question!

Every time I go get my haircut, I am asked if I want to have my eyebrows waxed and every time I say, "No thanks."

Do you think they are trying to tell me something?

Come on, at least they are not this bad. I think birds could build a nest in there.

Have a good weekend!

***I will be at the Relay for Life event tonight and tomorrow for The American Cancer Society. My father died of Cancer at the young age of 61 so this is a personal event for me.

This is our second year with this team headed up by the the best coordinator ever, Annie Sierer. Last year our team recieved the most money raised award, largely due to her efforts.

If any of you are in the area, we will be at Lower Dauphin Highschool in Hummelstown/Hershey. Kickoff begins at 4 pm today and runs all day Saturday, June 11. Bring the kids for all kinds of fun and goodies at the booths. You can even get a Pickle-on-a-stick! Our leg of the race is at 2 am and will also be working the concession stand tomorrow.

I will be the one with the bushy eyebrows...

I think the "Flock of Seagulls" look is making a comeback.

Not really, it's just a sign of a good nap.

I think it's time for a haircut...

No placenta talk

`

We began dating when Jon was a young 82nd Airborne Paratrooper.

He is on the far left.
He still supports the local barber...maybe.

Jon didn't have to work yesterday so we enjoyed spending the day together.

We are always thinking of ways in which we could run a business together. We did once and it was fun but we still had the main jobs.

In a perfect world we would run a company that would allow us to work from home. Well, actually, in a perfect world we would be independently wealthy, travel the globe and fill our days with adventures and philanthropic efforts while writing books.

In any case I would never tire of him.

Me: "Man, I need to get a haircut."

Jon "Did I tell you about when I got my hair cut yesterday?"

Me: "No"

Jon: "Well, my barber, the female one, likes to talk. A lot."

Me: "Oh? Eva Scrivo says hair stylists shouldn't talk while they're working. They should be concentrating."

Jon: "Yeah, I guess when she had her last baby, her placenta was falling into her uterus or her uterus was falling into her placenta. Whatever. Something like that."

Me: "She told you that?? She doesn't know you at all."
(Jon = queasy stomach when talking about things like this.)

Jon: "Yeah. Not at all. I think I threw up a little in my mouth."

Me: "Maybe she's lonely and needs to chat."

Jon: "No, she's not lonely. She has a boyfriend. A new one. Did you ever see the guy in the booth next to her? Have you ever been in there with me?"

Me: "No."

Jon: "Well, he left and so did the big screen t.v."

Me: "Where did he go?"

Jon: "I don't know but the big screen is gone. They had three kids together."

Me: "The big screen? What??"

Jon: "No, the barbers. Now she has a new boyfriend and had pictures of them all over the place."

Me: "And tell me why you go to the barber still?"

Jon: "I don't know. Can we just get some clippers and you can do my hair?"

Me: "Sure!"

Jon: "You won't tell me about your placenta, will you?"

Me: "No. I don't know anything about a placenta."

Jon: "You wouldn't tell me if you did, would you?"

Me: "No."

Jon: " Then you're the barber for me, lady!"

Me: " I think you just gave me my next blog post."

Stylist to the stars

Friday, April 23, 2010

On Wednesday night, I helped Blair brush her teeth, kissed her good-night and tucked her into bed. The next morning, Charley emerged from the bedroom holding a chunk of long, blond hair. She said, "Mom, I found this next to Blair's bed. It's all over the place!"

I immediately went into the room and saw that Blair was under the covers. Kneeling beside the bed, I pulled back a Hello Kitty comforter to wake her. I noticed that long strands of hair were all over her pajamas. I thought that it must be itchy.
She must have cut it before Charley went to bed since she has a later bed-time. Blair was already under the covers and hiding her hair when Charley came into the room so she didn't notice what had happened.

"Who did this? I won't be mad." I said. She began to cry but told me it was her and she didn't know why she cut it.
"Because you are four." I replied. That seems to be the only explanation on why kids do the things they do - their age. Charley did the same thing, only she didn't have bangs and looked like Little Lord Fauntleroy. It was the cutest thing ever.

And even though we told Blair we'd rather not have her do this, she did a pretty good job.

The first look at her new do. Uh oh.
The second look at her new do and liking what she sees.

Blair after going to the salon which made her very excited.
Kitty from "That 70's show," anyone?

Oh, kids and laughter go hand in hand.
Daily doses of humor expected.
That's good, don't you think?

Dear Malstrom Salon,

It's been nearly eight years since I had to leave you.
I didn't want to, but the job made us move. You know a girl would never willingly leave her one and only hair guru.

I've looked for others but they have not quite measured up. When I sit down to wait for my appointment no one pours me a pop to drink and heaps magazines onto my lap. No one gives me a scalp massage with seductive, mind-soothing and stress-relieving aromatherapy oils. No one schedules my Ricks college gal, Tracy, at the same time in the salon so we can have a mini-reunion. But, I guess she would need to live here to do that...

Since I left, I went to a stylist once in Maryland with 3 inch fingernails. She couldn't hold the scissors properly because of them. Instead of using a comb to perfectly section out my hair, she'd use her nails and my hair kept getting caught in them; making me really mad. I was afraid to say anything because I figured it was akin to complaining in a fast food restaurant. Who knows what she would have done to my hair. She wouldn't have been able to hear me complain over her singing anyway.

In South Carolina it wasn't much better. There I learned that you never get your hair cut by someone who is older than your mom. Besides being subjected to menopause stories, the stylist suggested the Dorothy Hamill wedge would suit me nicely. Sure, if I were 10 years old.

I tried another place in Georgia which I thought looked promising. It figured that my name was called by the stylist who was not yet licensed. I learned this because she and the boss talked to each other the whole time. The boss said the stylist was going to get her sued if she kept messing up people's hair.
Note to self: never let anyone cut my hair who looks likes Joe Dirt.
She would have been a great candidate for Split Ends, though. Love that show.

I did find a girl here who actually does a good job. I told her of my hair cutting woes and she promised to end my search.
She passed my scrutiny but I stop short of letting her dry it. I did let her once but I came out sporting "mom hair" which is the cranial equivalent to wearing mom jeans.

It's all good though, you taught me your drying techniques well.

Now if I can just find local Aveda products, I'd be set. (no pun intended.)
(For those lucky enough to be in the vicinity of Malstrom Salon, call and ask for Chris or Tricia. Your hair will be your new BFF.)
