Friday (the 13th) Finds were not unlucky

Friday, July 13, 2012

I scored a few deals on some things that I didn't even set out to find in my travels today. They seemed to all be kitchen related too, except for the sweet Craftsman jig saw I got at a garage sale...

But the kitchen stuff had me extra giddy when I saw a Polka dot Pyrex. I won't even tell you how much because you'd cry. It was that cheap.

...and the old bottle holder. I scooped it right up thinking it could house some of my big oil bottles for cooking or maybe some colorful bottles as vases or just hold some water bottles for now. It's a little delicate so I can't really cart it around. She'll just have to stay put and look pretty.

and then there were some other things but they'll have to wait until next time. Tomorrow I may even see if the lucky streak continues. Just looking of course.

Friday finds

Friday, June 17, 2011

For a while, I've been scouring thrift shops for that ornate and, ok, slightly gaudy mirror I needed for the entry way. I had a few options with some frames I had on hand but needed to have a mirror cut to fit. Knowing I probably wouldn't get around to doing that anytime soon, I waited.
The waiting finally paid off when I stopped by the Goodwill and found this mirror for $1.99. It was a dull, dark gold color until I used Rub 'n Buff in Gold Leaf to spruce it up.

I stopped by a garage sale on a whim on the way home from taking the kids to school. Fridays are the big garage sale days around here. So the .50 cent owl who lost it's top is put to good use on the craft table. I'm debating on whether to spray him some other color.

I like anything in galvanized metal so when I spotted this minnow bucket for only $2.00, it came home with me.

And now it holds only plants, no minnows.

Under $5.00 and happy.

Color me happy - thrifty finds

Monday, May 23, 2011

In my daily travels taking kids around town, I stumbled upon a few things. Seriously, I think most of my life is spent in the car.

When I was dropping off Reese at school there was a moving sale right across the street. I thought, "Well since I'm here, why not??" so I hopped on over and found this (fitty-cent) butter dish.

I don't know who uses them anymore, which is probably why she was selling her grandmother's, but you-know-who wiiillll. (hand raised)

At another place I brought home some much needed cereal bowls for a $1.00.

A quick trip to the Salval produced some knitted throws. I usually don't buy bedding or blankets second hand because of bed bug issues. If I am contemplating anything like that or upholstery pieces, I do a thorough check. It helps being married to a hotel management guru who has taught you what to look for. So after checking, I couldn't resist the patterns and colors. I'm a sucker for both. And, after a good dry cleaning, they're perfect. The green one is wool. Total spent: $5.99

When I began using them all, I realized the common element was color, bright color. The backdrop of my house is fairly neutral so everything works. And, the added bonus is that no bank was broken. Happy day.

What colors appeal to you?
